49ers Paradise has learned that running back Jonas Lewis, who was released from the team just weeks ago, has signed with the Detroit Lions for an unconfirmed some. Lewis appeared to be an up and coming running back for the 49ers, but the team chose instead to try its luck with a few even younger, less experienced players like Jamal Robertson.

Lewis had stated that he would check with the 49ers before signing another contract. Whether he did indeed do that is unclear, but I know that I will certainly miss watching Lewis perform for the team, his injury last season was quite unsettling. He did however appear to be in full health this off-season, and I certainly hope he has a bright future ahead of him.

The Lions also reached further into the former 49er player pool as they signed defensive tackle Bill Duff, a 1998 undrafted free agent of the 49ers. Duff has had no significant NFL play time, but did participate with the Berlin Thunder and the Orlando Rage and the NFLE and XFL respectively.

Talk about it in the 49ers Paradise Forum
