Introducing Rasheed Saleem
April 25 2002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
Introducing Linebacker Rasheed Saleem:

The Particulars:
College: Alabama
Height: ~6'3"
Weight: ~229 lbs
40 Time: ~4.5 seconds
Vertical Jump: ~37.5 inches
Bench Press: ~475 lbs
Hometown: ~ Birmingham, Ala.

College Highlights:
Rasheed Saleem will go down in Crimson Tied history as one of the best linebackers the team has ever seen. He was the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar and two time Academic All-Southeaster Conference Choice. He is one of only 12 players in school history to record over 100 tackles in a season. Had no problem getting to the quarterback.

Role With 49ers:
The 49ers see Rasheed as a player who can come in and backup all three linebacking positions. He's fast and a sure tackler, and is tabbed as someone who could develop into a lethal starter. Rasheed will bring a challenge to Jeff Ulbrich, Jamie Winborn and Derek Smith.

The team also likes Rasheed stepping into a special teams role. With the loss of Terry Killens, a key head hunter last season, Rasheed, with his great speed and sure tackling is tabbed as that guy for the 49ers.

Quotes To Note:
"He is a great football player who can play all three positions, he is really quick at a 4.5 40-yard time and he started at Alabama as a true freshman. We believe that he is the first player in school history to do that."
- linebackers coach Richard Smith.

Injury History:
There has been no doubt cast on Saleem's medical status.
