Introducing Teddy Gaines
April 272002
By Bryan Hersh of 49ers Paradise
Introducing cornerback Teddy Gaines:

The Particulars:
College: Tennessee
Height: ~5'10""
Weight: ~173 lbs
40 Time: ~4.49 seconds
Vertical Jump: ~NA
Squat Lift: ~NA
Hometown: ~ Kingsport, Tenn.

College Highlights:
Teddy Gaines was a two year starter at Tennessee. He does not posses great size, but at 5'10" he has the frame to add a necessary 20 pounds to be a corner in the NFL. Gaines is very quick and a fluid runner. He excels at zone coverage and rarely misses an angle.

In his senior year Teddy excelled at breaking up passes, but did not record an interception.

Role With 49ers:
The 49ers would love for Gaines to gain the necessary weight to play corner in the NFL. He's not too small if he can add the bulk. He has good speed and instincts and works best in zone coverage. Given some more weight his man coverage would likely improve. Gaines will compete with Rashad Holman and Anthony Parker for a spot in the defensive backfield behind Plummer, Webster, and Rumph.

Quotes To Note:

Injury History:
There are no specific worries with Teddy in regards to injuries.

Additional Notes:
Teddy also was on the track team in college as a sprinter. I believe the team should try him as a kick returner.
