Garcia To Take Game To Next Level

Jeff Garcia is ready to take his game to the next level. The quarterback who’s often referred to as scrawny is coming off his second great season with the team. He’s bulked up, he’s ready to go, and he’s assumed a greater leadership position with the team.

Garcia recently stated: "I want the guy who follows me to have to worry about following me, following Steve Young, following Joe Montana." Clearly demonstrating that he wants to be the 49ers starting, and winning quarterback for a long time to come. He has it within him to be all he wants to be, but of course, there’s a lot more winning to do before anyone will be willing to mention his name along side Montana’s and Young’s.

Late last season Garcia became part of an exclusive group of players that Steve Mariucci confides in about game planning. Garcia is set to continue that role this season, and his relation with Mariucci and Knapp are bound to help that.

While Garcia begins to make the 49ers his team, he will have to put up with his third quarterback coach in as many years. Thankfully, offensive coordinator Gregg Knapp is still around, as he along with Mariucci are largely credited for Garcia’s development.

Garcia’s added muscle should aid in his durability this season. It may also help him make some throws that 49ers staff were often cautious about calling. With more strength, chemistry with team mates, leadership and an even better understanding of the game, big things are being expected of Jeff Garcia this season.
